Awareness campaign against the Corona pandemic

The government of the State of Kuwait taking the lead and coordinating all efforts governmental and voluntary to confront the pandemic of the emerging corona disease (Covid 19) had a great impact in addressing that disease in Kuwait till now. However, adopting that role did not prevent Kuwaiti public benefit associations from uniting all their efforts and harnessing all their platforms and media channels, each from its location, to support the state’s plans in the face of this deadly disease. Public benefit societies and associations, led by the Women’s Cultural and Social Society, have always been keen to raise societal awareness of the instructions of the official state institutions and to shed light on the urgent and pressing issues that strongly appeared on the surface in the wake of this crisis, with a view to maintain the cohesion of Kuwaiti society from the hands of abusers and crossing it to safety.

The Society has interacted with several issues and launched a series of campaigns in cooperation with its partners in civil society, which can be summarized in the following points:

1- A joint campaign to support the efforts of the government of the State of Kuwait to confront Coronavirus pandemic.
2- Accountability campaign for residency dealers.
3- A joint campaign to encourage the Ministry of Education to implement eLearning.
4- A campaign to reject discrimination between Kuwaiti nationals and residents in Kuwait.
5- An awareness campaign to follow the safety and health guidelines pertaining to Coronavirus pandemic on social media platforms of the Society, according to the instructions issued by the competent authorities in the State of Kuwait.
6- Interacting with other national voluntary campaigns.

Breast cancer awareness campaign

In October 2003, the Society launched a breast cancer awareness campaign and a team was formed for that purpose, “Breast Cancer Awareness Team”, under the slogan of “Early detection of breast cancer saves your life”. The campaign continued until 2009 after the clinical diagnosis unit at AlSabah Hospital was established.

During those six years, the team has carried out several activities, including:

1- Issuing posters and brochures of simplified presentation of the disease and its symptoms, and the definition of mammograms and their importance in detecting tumors.
2- Preparing and distributing pink ribbons symbolizing breast cancer awareness campaign.
3- Distributing brochures to shops, beauty centers, malls, hotels, hospitals, etc.
4- Holding workshops for secondary school students in the various provinces to raise awareness of the disease and explain how to conduct self-examination.
5- Breast Cancer Awareness Marathon.
6- Providing a hotline throughout the month of October to respond to inquiries, where a doctor specialized in oncology, from Makki Juma Specialized Center, volunteered to respond to them.
7- A version of a “shower hanging”, made of waterproof paper, that shows how to conduct a self-examination to facilitate its use on a regular basis.
8- Sending telephone instructions on mobile phones to highlight the importance of early detection and important information about the disease. “Flyers” about the campaign have been published with AlQabas and AlSeyassah newspapers.
9- Issuing 15,000 brochures to give an overview of the disease and its symptoms, introducing the mammogram technique and its importance in detecting the disease, highlighting the most vulnerable groups and how to conduct self-examination. The brochures were distributed in malls and stores frequently visited by women.
10- Organizing a musical evening and a fashion show, entitled “Art for Life”, in 2003, where the proceeds of which were allocated to support the campaign, and another evening under the same title was held in 2004, featuring the Lebanese band Charbel Rouhana for Arab music.
