Jasmine Call for Syria 2013

Since its establishment, the Society has never given up in supporting those affected by wars. In January of 2013, the Women’s Cultural and Social Society held two musical evenings under the slogan “Jasmine Call” to provide relief to nearly 4 million displaced people inside “Syria”, in an attempt to save them from hunger and cold and secure their urgent and necessary needs for the simplest necessities of life, such as infant formula and medicine.
The first evening was starred by the famous Syrian international musician and pianist Malek Jandali, then the artist Abdel Rahim AlSayadi played the lute solo.
The second evening was starred by the famous musician and lute player Naseer Shamma, who is considered the first Arab player to play the eightstringed lute, and is considered as the inventor of playing the lute with one hand, which enables people with disabilities to play the lute. Naseer Shamma is considered one of the most important Arab musicians who excelled in solo composition. Naseer Shamma played solo on the lute instrument and excelled in playing oriental musical pieces. The artist Kevork Murad also participated with him, by playing some musical pieces, in a visual musical show, which he excelled in by creating expressive and realistic drawings. Kevork Murad is considered to be one of the few artists who worked on integrating the formative and visual language with the rhythms of the musical melody.
The evening also included an artistic presentation of his paintings, where he donated 60% of their price to the relief of the Syrian people. The artist Kevork Murad also presented one of his paintings to be sold at the public auction that was held at the beginning of the ceremony. In addition, a film entitled “My Pink Room” about the story of the displacement of a Syrian child and his family to the Zaatari camp was displayed.
Cooperation was held with the Patients Help Fund in Kuwait to deliver donations to charitable committees in Syria. Subsidies of infant formula and medicine were distributed inside Syria in cooperation with the following charities: Najda Now Syria Relief Milk Point White Hands Group
