The project started with an awareness media campaign in the first week of September 2011 to introduce Alzheimer’s disease, followed by a symposium that was held on 12/09/2011 about the symptoms of the disease andى how to deal therewith. In the second phase of the project, the work team continued to communicate with the families of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and to plan training courses on dealing with those patients. In the third phase, the Society, in cooperation with the College of Medicine, Kuwait University, organized the Alzheimer’s Regional Conference in 2012, under the title “Challenges and Hopes”.
In 2013 and 2014, the working team organized two training sessions entitled “Back to the Principles and Basics of Alzheimer’s Disease the ABCs of Specific Care”.
The team also held several Alzheimer’s disease awareness campaigns in malls and in Kuwait International Book Fair.
Support group for the caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients
Based on the interest of Alzheimer’s awareness team, we are happy to announce the formation of a support group tailored specifically to caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients.
The group, led by Dr. Raghad Alkordi, will offer moral, emotional, and psychological support to caregivers. It aims to help caregivers manage the stresses resulting from the burden of caregiver, which can cause several health issues including anxiety, depression, and physical and mental burnout.
The support group will hold weekly, voluntary, non-profit meeting which will be open for participants interested in sharing and raising awareness of Alzheimer’s caregiver burden, as there are no other groups that cater to this specific category.
The support group will also function as an information portal to the participants, and a platform to answer various questions whether regarding managing the patient’s symptoms, or more practical questions such as medical equipment stores or names of home care providers.
